Can you re-bill my insurance?

Patients sometimes request that we rebill a claim the carrier has already processed hoping that it will be covered the second time. This is not the case. Simple rebilling of a claim will only result in a denial for “duplicate claim.” This only delays payment to the doctor. Although the customer service representative at the insurance company may have suggested rebilling, they are incorrect (most likely due to poor training and quota pressure from their managers, they must handle as many calls as possible so they have an incentive to get the patient off the phone as quickly as possible).

In the absence of any major change to a claim, the patient must be told that the insurance carrier already has the claim and that a duplicate claim will not result in payment. The patient should be encouraged to contact the insurance company again and to ask for a manager.
