Medicare Replacement Policies

Medicare replacement policies are just that, patients no longer have Medicare, they have given up Medicare enrollment with the hope of improved benefits and lower costs. This includes well known policies such as BCBS HMO and Humana Gold. Patients may continue to present their Medicare card even-though the card is invalid. It is very unusual for a patient to have both Medicare and an HMO, this only seems to occur if the patient or spouse has coverage thru a current employer. Be alert if a Medicare enrollee presents an HMO card, more than likely, there is no supplemental, this is an HMO patient.
